Telling Your Story

It starts with understanding. With empathy. With getting where you and your script are coming from. Every script is a story, and every story needs to be understood in order to be told well. With the head, and with the heart.
Wait . . . every script? What about an ad for the latest specials at a fast food joint? Does that really need the same level of understanding? I think it does. Even fast food joints have something to say, after all, and people who want to hear it (heck, every now and then I’m one of them). And to me, that’s a good thing! I love getting the chance to relate to the story in a script - no matter how complex, goofy, heartbreaking or mundane - and to the people that story is intended for. It makes me feel connected. And without connection . . . well, what’s the point, really?
So whether I’m explaining Byzantine compliance regulations in a training video, narrating a documentary about ridiculously cute baby animals, voicing a creepy psycho killer in an audiobook - or, yes, even hard-selling you on chicken nuggets - I see every script as a chance to make a connection. To walk with you a while along your path, let your truth get under my skin, and bring your message home to the hearts and minds (and sometimes the taste buds) of your audience.
